The National Association of State Contracting Agencies (NASCLA) Accredited Examination for Commerical Building Contractors is used by state licensing agencies to test candidates. It was created to reduce the redundant licensing requirements and to assist contractors that want to be licensed in multiple states.
The following states accept NASCLA:
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, US Virgin Islands
The North Carolina Residential License allows you to build residential structures in the state of North Carolina only. There is reciprocity with other states, however you may still need to pass a state exam. Limitation on dollar amounts per project apply.

The NASCLA license allows you to build residential and commercial structures in 16 states plus the US Virgin Islands after completing and passing the business and law test for the state or states you wish to be licensed.

The NASCLA license allows you to build residential and commercial structures in 16 states plus the US Virgin Islands after completing and passing the business and law test for the state or states you wish to be licensed.
The NC Residential exam requires knowledge of 13 reference materials. Only 4 of the 13 reference materials that are specified by PSI can be brought into the exam.
The NC Building exam requires knowledge of 20 reference materials. Only 8 of the 20 reference materials that are specified by PSI can be brought into the exam.
The NASCLA exam requires knowledge of 23 reference materials. All 23 reference materials can be brought into the exam.
The GA Residential Basic exam requires knowledge of 10 reference materials. All 10 reference materials can be taken into the exam.
The Georgia Residential – Light Commercial exam requires knowledge of 16 reference materials. All 16 reference materials can be brought into the exam.
The NC Residential exam is 210 minutes, has 90 questions and requires a 70% to pass. The business and law exam is built into the exam.
The NC Building exam is 200 minutes, has 90 questions and requires a 70% to pass. The business and law exam is built into the exam.
The NASCLA exam is 330 minutes, has 115 questions and requires an 81% to pass. A separate business and law exam is required for each state you want to be licensed.
The GA Residential Basic exam is 200 minutes, has 80 questions and requires a 70% to pass. The business and law exam is built into the exam.
The Georgia Residential – Light Commercial exam is 230 minutes, has 90 questions and requires a 70% to pass. The business and law exam is built into the exam.
Yes. Many students take the NASCLA exam even if they do not plan to build in other states.
For the NASCLA exam, since there is a trade exam and a business and law exam, the entire process including the testing, can take 1-2 months. For the other tests, the process to get the license after passing the exam is 1-2 weeks as long as all required documents are submitted to the Licensing Board.
For NASCLA you would go to https://www.nascla.org/ Select Exam Info then select Apply for the Exam. Detailed instructions are on the NASCLA website. Once you pass the exam, your results are entered into the National Exam Database (NASCLA NED) where you can then apply to have your transcripts sent to the respective state licensing agency to get approval to sit for the business and law test.

Yes. The seminar focuses on study strategies for each book and also provides examination tips. You will not find this anywhere else as we have been teaching these courses for over 40 years.
We suggest that you take our seminar / webinar at least 30 days prior to scheuling your exam. Our research suggests that taking the seminar alone is not enough to help you pass. This is not a cram course. We recommend attending the seminar to learn how to study and what to expect on the exam so that you can achieve your goal quickly. This perspective is what drives our high pass rates.

Seminars and webinars start at 8:00 AM and end no later than 5:00 PM. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow for registration.
We suggest that you bring something to write with to take notes during the class. Books are not required to attend the seminar because we do not highlight and tab during the class. You will given detailed instructions during class on how to most effectively tab and highlight your books. You will receive a Study Fact Reference Guide for your exam after the class via email.

Absolutely! Our proprietary Study Book Reference Guide coincides with our proprietary Book Tabs. If you did not purchase books from us, or if they do not have our tabs, we recommend that you remove any existing tabs in your books and replace them with our tabs so that our reference materials can be easily used.

We do not allow additonal guests or attendees unless they have paid for the seminar.

In the event of cancellation or rescheduling, registered participants will be notified as soon as practicable. Yes it matters where you get your books. Not all sellers maintain current and compliant books for the exams. Compliance is your responsibility. Our books are 100% compliant with PSI Examinations Candidate Information Bulletin and are the basis for our Reference Book Study Fact Guides.
If you purchased books elsewhere, please contact our office at 828-277-3999 to ensure our course material will align with the books. Be advised that the required book editions are subject to change.
Shipment Processing Time. All book pack orders typically process within 10-21 business days depending on availability. Tabbing and highlighting the books can add an additional 2 – 3 days. Small book orders and tab sets take 3 – 5 business days. Orders are not shipped or delivered on weekends or holidays. If we are experiencing a high volume of orders, shipments may be delayed. Please allow additional days in transit for delivery. Occasionally books are on back order but will be shipped out as soon as they become available. For faster shipping there may be additional fees incurred; please notify us at the time of your order if you need faster shipping. If you received your order damaged, please contact the shipment carrier to file a claim. Please save all packaging materials and damaged goods before filing a claim. That is not a safe assumption to make. Book versions can change. Test Administrators have full discretion and may change the books at any time with or without notice.
Please contact us to make sure you have the latest editions. If you arrive at the test center with non-compliant book versions, they will not be allowed into the exam.

You can only highlight and underline in the books. You cannot write in the books, fold pages, add or remove pages, or have any loose leaf pages.
We strongly recommend that you do not. PSI Services, LLC have strict guidelines regarding the types of tabs that can be used for the exams. If you use the wrong tabs you will be required to remove them at the exam center before you will be allowed to sit for the exam.
Too many tabs limits your ability to quickly find information during the exam.
Our refund policy is as follows:
If we receive the books unwrapped within 10 days of when you received the order we will refund the original cost of the books less the shipping cost and a 20% restocking fee. Refunds take 2 – 3 weeks to process.
We do not refund seminar or webinar fees. We are happy to reschedule your seminar or webinar at no additonal cost.

We’re happy to offer up to 30% of the original purchase price for books that meet our buy-back requirements.
Please review the following parameters so you know how your books will be valued:
To Qualify for the Maximum 30% Buy-Back
- Book must have been purchased through our store/program.
- Good condition or better, meaning:
- NO writing or marks on any pages
- NO missing, torn, or loose pages
- Cover intact and clean (no water damage, excessive wear, or cigarette smoke or other odors)
- Recent editions currently being used for the exam
Deductions That Will Lower the Buy-Back Value
- Moderate wear (worn cover corners, heavier highlighting, notes throughout).
- Cosmetic damage (minor stains, bent cover, stickers).
Not Eligible for Buy-Back
- Books with any writing in them
- Books that are outdated and no longer used for the exam
- Books with excessive highlighting, tabbing, or underlining
- Books with severe damage (water, mold, smoke, missing pages).
Once the books are received in our office the evaluation can take 2-3 weeks for the books to be reviewed.
ACH payment will be processed within 2 weeks
Check payment will be processed within 3-4 weeks
Any books that we cannot use for any reason will incur a $20 disposal fee per book that will be deducted from the total.
We will not ship any unused books back to you.
If you purchased books elsewhere, we cannot take any that have been tabbed and highlighted by another company.

Licensing Product Refund Policy:
Licensing products are non-refundable.
Licensing Product Attendance Policy:
You may attend one (1) additional seminar/webinar within one year from the date of your first seminar/webinar. After that, a new purchase is required. Registration is required to attend. To register, re-schedule, or cancel your registration, we require 48 hours advance notice by calling us at (828) 277 – 3999. Failure to appear without notice counts as one (1) attendance.
Licensing Product Guest Attendance Policy:
Non-paying guests are not allowed.
Licensing Product Transfer Policy:
Licensing products cannot be transferred to another person or entity.
Licensing Product Exchange Policy:
Exchange eligibility is based on one (1) or less attendance within (1) year of purchase. The exchange fee is zero with no prior attendance. Otherwise, the exchange fee is $149.00.
Book & Tab Refund Policy:
Orders cancelled within ten (10) calendar days that have not yet shipped can receive a full refund.

The purchase of licensing products grants you temporary access but no ownership of our materials. USER ACCOUNTS
You may have to provide sensitive information to create a user account. You are responsible for the accuracy of and for maintaining the safety and security of your identifying information. This includes all activity under your account and password. If you believe that the security of your account has been compromised, inform us immediately. We reserve the right to terminate user accounts, and to edit or remove orders at the sole discretion of the company.

National Contractors Seminars, Inc., will not be liable for shipping delays caused by circumstances beyond our control.
Anticipated Shipping Times
Book and tab orders process on average within ten (10) to (14) days. Please allow an additional seven (7) days shipping for us to complete orders that include “highlighted and tabbed” books. Also, due to Hurricane Helene, books might be delayed since our supplier is in Tennessee and shipping time has been delayed.
